Who will be joining us...

The Temple of Elen

The Temple of Elen is a travelling sacred space dedicated to our ancient antlered Goddess. Elen is the Goddess of pathways, Ancient track ways, wells, and Springs. Crossroads, Earth Energies, and this Sacred Land. She is Deer Mother, Green Lady, Solar Deity, Faerie Queen. Elen may be elusive and shape-shifting, yet she will guide and support our physical and spiritual journeys when we ask and honour her. She is Ancient and Wild.

The Temple of Elen offers a safe and supportive space for us to explore and connect to Elen. We craft, journey, share stories, drum, and sing in her honour, seeking her guidance with respect and gratitude.

We have a board that we put up outside the Temple to show what offerings we have each day... usually drumming and chant, and guided meditation at set times, and then crafting, divination, and safe sacred space at other times.

John Worland

John is a local historian concentrating on the Essex Witch Trials. He is passionate about giving the victims a voice, and campaigns to have memorials placed at appropriate sites in Essex. A retired police inspector, he examines significant trials as “cold cases” analysing the evidence and creating a much fuller picture of the people involved.

As we are in St Osyth, John will be telling us“The extraordinary story of Ursula Kemp."

In 1582, a trial of 13 alleged witches became national news. This was the first time in English history to have so many accused of witchcraft in one trial . The ringleader was said to be Ursula Kemp from St Osyth. What sets this all too common 16th century tragedy apart from the others is that in 1921, a skeleton was uncovered in St Osyth which was identified at the time, as being that of Ursula Kemp. This talk tells the story of Ursula’s trial, the history and travels of that skeleton and the four year task that faced John as he fought to have the remains reburied back in St Osyth. Extraordinary indeed.
